The associated social and economic stressors predispose them disproportionately to mental and physical illness. As a result, transgender and gender non-conforming people hace been identified as one of the most at risk populations for HIV and TB. Transgender and gender nonconforming people encounter further discrimination at health care facilities where the ignorance and prejudice of some health providers create a hostile environment of indignity and unequal access to health care.
